One aspect of my daily ritual includes reading my cards every morning while making tea. This ritual is sacred to me, and one that keeps me grounded, brings guidance and perspective. I decided to start sharing those readings as a way to explore the plant magick behind the Pythia Botanica Oracle with you.
I designed the Pythia Botanica to be read intuitively, allowing the reader to give meaning and circumstance to their pull. However, should you choose to delve in further or desire a clearer explanation, every deck includes a mini booklet to light the way. The meanings behind the cards are rooted-in and derive from mythology surrounding the adorning herbs and flowers. I spent months researching the varying myths (some botanicals had more than one attached to them) in order to conjure the spirit of each plant.
The cards can be read in traditional Tarot spreads, on their own or in unison with other decks. Personally, I use the Pythia Botanica as I do Tarot―on their own and in a variety of spreads―the application is up to you.
These are my most recent readings using the Pythia Botanica Oracle deck and a glimpse into the meanings behind some of the cards. Welcome!
TWO CARD PULL
Rose is Open Hearts, a card that inverts traditional understandings of love. Of course, beauty, purity, desire, and other amorous pleasures abound for the reader. But Pythia's Rose means more than that: it is a beacon of compassion, a call to heal through ecstasy and absolve through bliss.
is Transfer Grief, a reminder to diffuse your sorrow with those who share it and infuse your woes where beauty springs. In the darkest turmoil, plant such sullen seeds. The sun will always come. Tears may be enough. In time, blooms―
PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE
Past - Comfrey is Grow Together, a card that appears in times of change for those close to us. A waxing moon need not lead us to wane: wax together, bind and wind, pull your weight and climb. Comfrey is a card of both great challenge and romantic capacity
Present - Cinquefoil is Enchant, a call to live undaunted by the potent charms inherent to your psyche. To bewitch an other is as much an act of casting light as it is a reward to our own incandescence. Kindle your luster with their darkness.
Future - Borage is Lethe of the Heart, a card drawn to instill peace between personal battles, moving you to find lulls of passionate repose. A token of courage among woes, Borage is a glowing ember of perseverance.
